A Thanksgiving Reflection for Our Unity Family

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends and family—and truly, to every person on this planet.
This day invites us into a sacred pause, a collective breath in the midst of a world that often feels overwhelmed by unimaginable violence, heartbreaking division, and deep uncertainty. It is so easy to look around and see only what is broken. But as our ancestors wisely taught: What we appreciate, appreciates. What we bless, grows. What we give our loving attention to becomes stronger.
Cursing the wind has never calmed a storm. But turning our hearts toward gratitude—real, grounded, soul-level gratitude—helps us remember who we are and what we can create together.
So today, let us notice the good that is still present.
Let us honor the quiet acts of kindness happening all around us: the neighbor checking in, the volunteer feeding others, the medical team working through the night, the teacher staying late, the stranger offering a smile. Let us look for the places where compassion is rising, healing is unfolding, and people are choosing love over fear.
And in every moment we recognize and appreciate these things, we participate in them. We amplify them. We become co-creators of a beautiful world that is not built on denial of pain, but on the courageous choice to meet that pain with love.
This is the power of gratitude—it shifts the atmosphere. It lifts the mind. It opens the heart. It is not passive; it is a spiritual action that transforms us and, through us, transforms our world.
As Thanksgiving continues into the weekend, I invite you to join us—your Unity Family—in person or online this Sunday at Unity San Francisco. Together we will continue the spiritual practice of appreciation, hope, and healing. Together we will remember that light is always stronger than shadow, and love is always stronger than fear.
Let’s build a more beautiful world together.
