Advent: Faith

Welcome to the holiday season! This Sunday starts Advent, and we will light the candle for Faith at Sunday service. But what is Faith? What is your experience of Faith now that you’ve shifted from the religion of your childhood and moved into the spirituality of your life today?

If you’re like me, you’ve had to process what it means to be in the Christmas season, where everyone seems to celebrate the birth and the life of Jesus of Nazareth. If you don’t believe that Jesus is the one and only savior or the one and only child of God, you see here at Unity, we teach and we know that we are all made in the image and likeness of the Divine and that we are all Divine Expressions. We are the Beloved, and that everything, everything that Jesus did, we can do too. So we don’t have faith in a teaching. We don’t have faith in a miracle virgin birth or a resurrection. We have faith that Spirit, God, the energy of life itself, is at work within us and in everything around us so that we can move through difficult and heartbreaking situations and move with faith in the belief that there is something more than we are currently experiencing.

Faith that God, God, Spirit, whatever we want to call it, is at work in the situation, bubbling up and creating a new Heaven, a New Earth that we can experience right here and right now. So join us this Sunday as we light the candle for Faith externally and we kindle the flame of Faith within us so that we can be the torchbearers to this new Earth, this new life, this new way of being.

More words between Sundays.
