On this Earth Day at Unity San Francisco, we gather not just to celebrate the beauty of our planet, but to remember something deeper—our relationship with it. At the heart of that relationship is a powerful and often forgotten principle: reciprocity. Not a one-way exchange where we take what we need and move on, but a sacred, ongoing partnership in which giving and receiving are inseparable.

For too long, many of us have been conditioned to see the Earth as a resource—something to manage, use, and even control. Yet spiritual awareness invites us into a different understanding. The Earth is not separate from us; it is a living system we are intimately woven into. Every breath we take is part of a quiet exchange with the trees. Every meal is a collaboration between soil, water, sun, and human hands. Life itself is sustained through relationship, not transaction.

Reciprocity asks us to become conscious participants in that relationship. As we receive from the Earth, how do we respond? Caring for the Earth can be an extension of our spiritual practice, a way of aligning our actions with the truth of our interconnectedness. When we care for the Earth, we are also tending to the very conditions that sustain our lives and the lives of generations to come.

At Unity San Francisco, this Earth Day service is an invitation into that awareness. Rev. Eleesabeth and I will explore together what it means to live in right relationship with the Earth—grounded in gratitude, guided by wisdom, and expressed through the choices we make each day. We will look at how a shift in consciousness—from consumption to connection, from taking to tending—has the power to transform not only our personal lives, but the world we are creating together.

I invite you to join us this Sunday at 11 am, in person or online, for a service that is both reflective and activating. Come be part of a community committed to living more consciously, loving more fully, and showing up in sacred partnership with the Earth. Your presence matters, and together we amplify the energy of awareness and possibility.
