Our dear friend and member Errol Roelofsz, passed away at his home on April 8th. We will hold a special memorial service for Errol at Unity on Saturday, May 7th at 3pm. Errol was a member of Unity San Francisco for over 25 years, serving in many capacities, Usher/Greeter, Board Member, and Director of the Prayer Chaplain Program, just to name a few. And mostly, Errol was a loving presence and friend to many of us here at Unity. He will be greatly missed.
As Errol passed away without family here in the United States, we have been granted the privilege to take care of his earthly remains. Errol also passed without any resources to handle his funeral. Unity San Francisco has made arrangements for his cremation and we are looking for ways to celebrate and honor his legacy. Therefore we have established a memorial fund to help with Errol’s funeral expenses, build an endowment to establish a Prayer Chaplain Scholarship, and name a room in our new building in honor of Errol. A donor has stepped up and sponsored a Paving Stone for him. If you would like to support our efforts please click here to donate.
We look forward to seeing you on May 7th and if you would like to help with the service or the reception after, we would certainly love your participation. Write to us at office@unitysf.com

Errol was a wonderful human being that supported us all in prayer and friendship.
Errol truly walked the talk.
I am grateful that he was my friend & I will miss him. I am happy that he will be honored by his spiritual home that he served graciously & selflessly for so many years.
God Bless you Errol.
Bon voyage, my friend. Your Prayer Chaplain Scholarship will be endowed.
This time of year I look forward to Errol’s e-card and words of warmth and wisdom. Today my card to him was returned noting ‘deceased.. I am so happy I found this site.
For those who didn’t know, Errol was my first husband. He had left South Africa where he was a children’s character star (kinda like Barney) when he came out as gay. We met at the Northern California Renaissance Pleasure Faire where we were both performing. His visa was about to expire. He asked Sally Schneider first, who declined, then asked me if I would consider marrying him. Since Little Miss Boho had no intention of ever getting married I figured, why not?! So I did. Bishop Ernie H Ernest Caswell performed the ceremony in the newly minted Tournament of Horses arena. Mark Wallis gave me away. We stayed married until he was safe and secure in his newly chosen home. I became a Unitarian Universalist and he became a Unity member; so very similar. We had on and off contact over the years, he offered support to my son Zach as Z was coming out. He was a lovely, funny, wicked smart man. Honored to have known him and been a little piece of his too short life.
