In Unity, we affirm that “We are expressions of the Divine, and our very essence is God.” This is the heart of our Second Principle, a truth that calls us to see ourselves not as separate from the Divine but as its living, breathing manifestation.
This principle is both liberating and challenging. It liberates us from the old belief that we are flawed, sinful, or unworthy. And it challenges us to take responsibility for the divine power within us—to recognize that every thought, word, and action is an expression of that divinity.
Ralph Waldo Emerson captured this beautifully when he said, “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” The Divine is not some distant force pulling the strings of our lives. It is within us, as us, calling us to wake up to our own inherent power and wholeness.
So what does it mean to truly live this truth?
It means shifting from the mindset of lack and limitation to one of abundance and possibility. It means refusing to define ourselves by our past mistakes or the stories we’ve been told about who we are. Instead, we claim the truth that we are, and have always been, expressions of love, wisdom, and creativity.
Jesus affirmed this truth when he said, “You are the light of the world.” (Matthew 5:14) Not someday. Not after we’ve earned it. Right now. Our task is simply to remember—to live as though we truly believe in our own divine nature.
So today, I invite you to pause. Take a breath. Feel the divine life pulsing through you. You are not broken. You are not lacking. You are the very presence of God in action.
Let’s live that truth boldly, with love, grace, and an open heart.
Affirmation: I am a radiant expression of the Divine. I embrace my wholeness, my wisdom, and my infinite potential.
I’d love to explore this idea more with you this Sunday at 11 AM at Unity San Francisco. Join us as we dive deeper into this profound truth and support one another in remembering who we truly are. See you there!
