Pride Month is a celebration of authenticity, courage, and the sacred truth that each of us is a unique expression of Divine Life.
At Unity San Francisco, we believe that your life is not a mistake or something to be fixed. Your identity is not a problem to be solved. Your love is not something to hide. You are a one-of-a-kind expression of the Divine, and the world is better because you are here.
For many LGBTQ+ people, the journey toward self-acceptance has been complicated by religious and spiritual wounds. Too many have been told they were somehow less than, outside of God’s grace, or unworthy of belonging. Too many have sat in sanctuaries where their gifts were overlooked, their relationships questioned, or our very existence debated.
We know those wounds are real. We also know that healing is possible because, together, we have helped create a different kind of spiritual community.
For decades, LGBTQ+ people and their allies have shaped the culture of Unity San Francisco. Together, we have created a community where authenticity is celebrated, diversity is embraced, and every person is encouraged to discover and express their highest self.
We recognize that the Divine expresses through every race, culture, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ability, and life experience. And we know we are not done. There is more to know, more to learn, more to understand, and more to grow into.
Pride Month is not simply a celebration of how far we have come. It is a commitment to continue listening, learning, and evolving together.
And if you’re imagining a traditional church experience, you may be in for a surprise.
Alongside prayer, meditation, and spiritual practice, you’ll hear music from Lady Gaga, Cyndi Lauper, Lenny Kravitz, Broadway composers, soul artists, and contemporary musicians. We draw wisdom from wherever it can be found, using music, stories, science, and spiritual teachings to illuminate messages of self-worth, courage, belonging, and radical acceptance.
We believe truth is bigger than any one tradition. Our goal is not to tell you what to think, but to create an environment where you can discover your own deepest truth and live it unapologetically.
This Sunday, begin your morning with a restorative Sound Bath Meditation at 10:15 a.m., then join us at 11:00 a.m. for a special Pride Celebration featuring Suzanne Ford, Executive Director of San Francisco Pride.
Whether you are LGBTQ+, questioning, an ally, or simply seeking a spiritual community where love is practiced, bring your whole self. Bring your story. Bring your hopes, your doubts, your joy, and your healing.
With Pride and Love,
Rev. Ken Daigle
