Do you remember the excitement—and anxiety—of the first day of school? Will I fit in? Will I be chosen? Will I be smart enough?
We may leave the classroom, but those questions often follow us into adulthood. We still worry about belonging, compare ourselves with others, and wonder whether we are enough. The question is not simply whether we have grown older. It is whether we have continued to grow.
Children learn quickly because they are curious. They approach life with wonder, fall down, recover, and try again. What might happen if we reclaimed that openness and became students of our own lives?
Life itself is the school. Our relationships, work, disappointments, successes, and difficult experiences are all part of the curriculum.
We often say, “Life is happening for me.” But perhaps there is another way to understand it:
Life is happening with me.
The question is not only, “Why is this happening?” It is also, “What can this experience teach me, and how will I participate in what comes next?”
After years of working toward Broadway, I believed success would fulfill me. When the show closed, however, I faced fear, addiction, and painful beliefs about my worth. Recovery, the Twelve Steps, and Unity helped me discover that my deepest desire was not simply to succeed. I wanted to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
That difficult season did not have to be a punishment or a lesson arranged by the Universe. But it became an opportunity to awaken. Not every experience arrives as a lesson, but every experience can become one when we are willing to learn.
This Sunday, we will explore what it means to remain teachable through life’s changes, challenges, and recurring patterns. We will consider the Four Levels of Consciousness and how they can help us move from fear and limitation toward greater awareness, possibility, and love. Your life is the textbook. Your consciousness is the classroom. Your choices are the practice.
Join us as we discover how even familiar struggles may be inviting us to respond in a new way.

My highlight about Unity is being a student! It’s been a great way to live my life & purpose! Thanks, Rev. Ken,
Peace & Love, Connie
